Until the release of ‘The Sims’ back in early 2000 people based simulations were seldom seen in the West whereas on the other side of the planet the throng of Japanese dating sims continued to grow. Millions of copies and many expansion packs later ‘The Sims’ has gone on to become the best-selling PC game of all time and now more than ever people have discovered that being someone else can be fun. I too have been sucked into the depths that is the Sims.

My Mobile Pocket People is an attempt to create a mobile version of what games such as ‘The Sims’ did so successfully. You control a character (male or female and anything from loser to superhero literally) and you ultimately decide what he/she does whether it can be working lazing about watching TV or making love. Just like real people they have needs and these need to be fulfilled by performing an action (eg. If they stink give them a shower). The character’s needs continually increase so whether they’re hungry or tired there’s always something to do. For the slim minority of sadists amongst us there are plenty of ways to torture your character although I’ll leave that to the imagination! Jobs also play a major part in the game as you can never have too much money to purchase food or furnish your apartment.

Graphically the game is very simple which suits the game nicely. Presented in an isometric view it is easy to move the player around and get them to your desired destination. An option to switch the control scheme is also included and may help you when you do not get along to handle the movements of your hero. Colourful and light the graphics are nothing special but they get the job done especially in a game like this. The sound in the game is quite simple; there is nice music in the menu portion of the game and little tunes when using certain items. The sound well fits into the living atmosphere and if it ever gets annoying a mute option will help to turn it off.
